COMMUNITY GARDEN @ STEELMAN PARK

Chair:  Fahiym Hanna

The community garden committee coordinates garden plot rentals and organizes community work days and events in the Glenwood Community Garden at Steelman Park.  Want to learn how to grow your own food, but don’t have a sunny spot in your yard? You can rent a garden bed for only $15 a year!

The Glenwood Community Garden was established in 2007 by GGNA, The City of Greensboro Parks & Recreation department, and the NC Cooperative Extension Service with the support of an Eat Smart, Move More community health grant.

COMMUNITY WATCH

Chair:  vacant

Glenwood Community Watch is currently inactive …. but we are looking for someone to organize this important community safety group. Could that someone be YOU?

The community watch committee works with our community resource police officer and other city departments to identify issues of concern to the neighborhood relating to crime and safety. The goal of community watch is to get to know our neighbors and to educate our community about how we can make Glenwood safer by working together.

CODES & ORDINANCES

Chair:  Mitzi Griffin, 336-273-7506

The codes and ordinances committee regularly canvases the Glenwood neighborhood and records and reports severe city ordinance violations like overgrown lawns, substandard housing, junk cars, etc. Working with various departments in the city, the C&O committee works to make the neighborhood safer and more beautiful.

The events committee organizes large neighborhood-wide events like GlenFest, Glenwood’s multicultural festival, and the annual Halloween Carnival. The Grove Street committee is dedicated to the revitalization of the Grove Street business district, located in the heart of the Glenwood neighborhood. The Grove Street business district is a three block area of Grove Street between Lexington Avenue and Portland Street.

The Grove Street committee organizes events like the monthly Grove Street People’s Market and the annual Holiday Bazaar, and oversees the Grove St. Community & Sculpture Garden.

NEWSLETTER & WEBSITE COMMITTEE

Co-chairs:  Nancy Effle

The Glenwood Trolley is Glenwood’s community newsletter.  After many years without a newsletter, GGNA won a grant in 2011 from Building Stronger Neighborhoods to create this website and to revive the long-dormant Trolley.  Contact us if you would like to contribute photos or stories, or to advertise in the Glenwood Trolley.

SUNSHINE COMMITTEE

Chair:  Alice Ashman, aasmena@aol.com

The sunshine committee sends cards to Glenwood neighbors to celebrate milestones and send condolences.  Know a neighbor who just moved in? Had a baby? Lost a loved one? Let us know and we will make sure they receive an appropriate greeting from GGNA.
